Centralized enterprise data warehouse, ETL modernization, automatic reporting, and error-free employee input collection for a national healthcare provider

Business Goals

  • Modernize data infrastructure
  • Eliminate manual toil through reporting processes automation
  • Empower end-users to efficiently access and interact with data insights

Challenge

Managing and analyzing vast amounts of healthcare and financial data scattered across various systems.

Results

  • Streamlined Data Management
    • The centralized data warehouse streamlined data management and provided a single source of truth for healthcare operations and financial data.
  • Efficient Reporting
    • Automation of financial reports eliminated manual data collection and reduced reporting turnaround time.
  • Data Accessibility
    • End-users had direct access to interactive Tableau dashboards and Jet reports, enabling self-service analytics and reducing dependence on IT for data retrieval.
  • Improved Decision-Making
    • Healthcare professionals and executives could make informed decisions based on real-time data insights.
  • Scalability
    • The modernized ETL processes and centralized data warehouse were scalable to accommodate future data growth and additional healthcare facilities.

Implementation Details

  • Jet as the Enterprise Data Warehouse – 8 weeks
    • Our data management team designed and implemented 6 databases with dozens of interconnected tables, OLAP cubes, and data marts.
    • A schema for the centralized enterprise data warehouse was designed to accommodate diverse data sources.
    • Healthcare and financial data from different departments was consolidated and transformed for further reporting purposes.
    • Jet Data Warehouse provided a robust, scalable, and secure repository for storing and managing data
  • SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for ETL – 18 weeks
    • Our data engineering team migrated and developed approximately 65 data pipelines.
    • Legacy Talend data pipelines were assessed and migrated to SSIS packages.
    • ETL processes were redesigned to optimize data transformations and ensure efficient data loading into the SQL Server data warehouse.
    • SSIS automated data extraction, transformation, and loading processes, ensuring data consistency and quality.
    • File data sources were eliminated.
  • Tableau for Data Visualization – 16 weeks
    • Our BI team designed and implemented 38 interactive Tableau dashboards tailored to stakeholders’ business requests.
    • The dashboards provided insights into patient outcomes, revenue, expenses, and resource allocation.
    • Tableau was chosen as the primary data visualization and reporting tool for creating interactive dashboards and reports. It provided a user-friendly interface for healthcare professionals to access and analyze data.
  • Jet Reports for Tabular Reports Automation – 12 weeks
    • Our BI team designed and implemented 27 Excel-like Jet reports.
    • Jet Reports were developed on top of the consolidated Jet Data Warehouse to facilitate tabular data exploration.
    • Monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports were generated automatically, reducing manual effort and potential human errors.
    • Jet Reports (Excel extension) was the technology of choice as most of the corporate users were familiar with Excel and conservative regarding innovations.
  • Web Forms for Data Input – 9 weeks
    • Our web team designed and implemented 13 secure web forms.
    • Web forms were integrated with the SQL Server data warehouse, allowing end-users to input data directly into the system, eliminating error-prone, manually created file intermediates.
    • The primary goal of the web forms was to replace legacy file sharing and provide a centralized, error-free way for users to manually enter data for automatic processing and collection in a data warehouse.
    • End-users could input specific data, explore healthcare and financial records, and customize dashboards based on their needs.
